Florida State

Orlando International Airport, the second busiest airport in the state behind Miami International Airport, used to be known as McCoy Airforce Base. This is evident by its code, MCO, standing for the old name of the military installation. In 1975, after jointly allowing civilian passenger flights for several years, the air force base was closed and became part of the then named Orlando-McCoy Jetport. Soon thereafter, the name was officially changed to what it is currently known as. The Greater Orlando area is directly supported by this airport, and indirectly relieved by smaller nearby airports in Sanford, Daytona, Melbourne, and Tampa.

Currently, the airport hosts flights from Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, American Airlines, Air Canada, Dalta Air Lines, and several more. The flights land and link to one of their two terminals. Virgin Atlantic is has the largest aircraft in service at the airport to date, but Virgin is in competition with British Airways for the amount of flights that arrive and leave the airport in a given weeks with as many as 10 per week. As an international airport, MCO is connected to a central hub in Europe as of 2007, and offers passenger flights on assorted Airbus crafts on direct routes. In fact, MCO was one of the first airports in the world ready to accomodate landing and take-off of the world's largest airliner, Airbus A380. Air France will begin direct service with the Orlando International Airport starting in 2011, as will Edelweiss Air out of Sweden.

Internationally, the airport offers flights to and from Ireland, Canada, France, Mexico, England, Germany, and deeper into European territory. As the home of the mouse, it's no wonder the largest Airport in the world famous Orlando would be a popular and busy destination for international tourists.
